Weekend of September 18th   11 comments

Its mid-Septembaaaaaar!* Jack’s is officially dry for the season (pic below) and Hurricane Igor is slowly churning up the Atlantic. The sun is coming up later and going down earlier, it gets chilly at night but the water is warmer than ever, Wawa isn’t open 24 hours anymore; this is the time of year that separates the true Endless Summer Kid’s from the wannabe’s. Time of your life…

The second major Atlantic Hurricane of the season luckily sends us swell again on a weekend. I don’t know what I would do if it hit on a Tuesday and fizzled out by Friday. Show us your stuff Igor:

Igor also has a little sister, Julia, in tow. No not Ali’s blond beach tagging friend, it’s a hurricane people!

This Hurricane Season is leading us to some great September Sessions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9KvQ2fng6I

Not to be outdone, Hurricane Dave hinted at making an appearance NEXT weekend.

My main man from Long Island and only friend from Susquehanna U, James, will be down in Avalon town this weekend. Expect us to struggle between getting after it at night and getting up early for ‘cane surf. Lots of time spent at Freds and out in the line-up.

Palmer confirmed he will be making an appearance barring an emergency at the hotel, motel, Holiday Red Roof Inn.

*September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD). Created in 1996 by John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with “Hello,” but with “Ahoy, matey!”According to Summers, the day is the only holiday to come into being as a result of a sports injury. He has stated that during a racquetball game between Summers and Baur, one of them reacted to the pain with an outburst of “Aaarrr!”, and the idea was born. That game took place on June 6, 1995, but out of respect for the observance of D-Day, they chose Summers’ ex-wife’s birthday, as it would be easy for him to remember.

Eagles – Lions at 1:00pm on Sunday in a battle of the back-ups.

Boardwalk Empire premieres on Sunday at 9pm. AC during prohibition? Can’t miss it.

Who else is down??!?!?

  1. Jeff and I will be down… possibly tonight/Friday morning. Can’t wait to see what Igor brings.

  2. I’ll be ready to booze and surf by friday mid-afternoon. Come on Igor!

  3. Be down tonight by 9. I don’t surf but may make an exception for Igor. Booze and boards on the beach Friday evening?? See yall there.

  4. Haven’t been in NYC on a weekend since the beg. of April. Nate and I will be in the city but down next weekend! Weather still looking niiiiice.

    ESK's cooler sister
  5. Hurricane Erik and I will be down-avoiding house repairs and enjoying the last weekend of summer! Looking forward to some great days at the beach and sleeping on a mattress that is NOT on the floor!

  6. I will be down Saturday by noon. Headed to the Phil’s game the night before.

  7. Sadness! I will not be down this weekend…I have had a pretty solid streak though.

Off to Shanghai early Sunday morning where I hope to find a souvenir for the clubhouse.

Back on the 7 Mile ASAP.

  8. I think some serious birthday partying is necessary to celebrate John’s belated birthday.

  9. I’ll be there this weekend!! I believe kristen is in town until tomorrow as well! See everyone tonight! I agree, I think a belated 29th birthday party is in order for Mr. Harrisburg.

  10. First, I had a friend in college nicknamed Hurricane Dave. He was basically Macaulley Culkin in the Party Monster. Inspired imbibing and a complete mess. Love that dude…

Second, Johnny P (the second coolest Palmer) did indeed turn 29 this week. Hope Tropical Storm Palmer makes serious waves down there this week, perhaps even upgraded to the real deal…

    Have fun A-Listers…

  11. Who is this Miguel? Is this the same kid I worked with at the Avalon Supermarket? I was 12 he was 25? I can’t imagine its the same kid? He used to throw rotten tomatoes at me in the back alley behind the store. Hurricane Dave doesn’t inspire imbibing, but does brun many bridges and leaves the town a complete mess in his wake.

Who’s down this weekend? I am in town Thurs afternoon.
