Weekend of October 9th   7 comments

75 and Sunny, are you serious Clark!!! It looks like we are mighty close to having ourselves an Indian Summer:

An Indian summer is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs in autumn, characterized by a period of sunny, warm weather, after the leaves have turned following an onset of frost, but before the first snowfall. The generally accepted use of the term is when the weather is sunny and clear, and above 21 °C (70 °F), and all of the leaves of the trees have turned but before the first snow has fallen; a period normally associated with mid-October to late-November in the northern states of the U.S.

OK, so we haven’t had the first frost yet, but the beach on Saturday will be doing a great impression of late June, sans crowd. (ah, to be June again…)

T.S. Otto recently popped up on our radar here at the ESK King Neptune Meteorology Center. Nothing to worry about.

Last weekend was h-aaaamazing as you can tell from the pics. Peeps from all around need to find a way to make it down this weekend. 75 AND SUNNY!! THIS COULD BE THE LAST BEACH DAY UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY 2011!!! 7 months, just saying…

SEAFOOD FESTIVAL!!! Avalon Chamber of Commerce presents its 10th annual Seafood Festival October 9th and 10th at the Community Hall between 11:00am-5:00pm. The Chowder Contest, otherwise known as the “Main Event” will be Sunday. Live music will be provided by one of the Jersey Shore’s most popular bands, the Snake Brothers. The Joanne Reagan Dancers will also perform, and “Jerry the Stiltwalker” will be on hand to entertain the children. JERRY THE STILTWALKER!!!

Coinciding with the Seafood Festival on Saturday is the 2nd Annual Avalon Green Fair. What say you, Mr. Chairman? “This year’s Green Fair will include even more exhibitors and vendors”, said Jim Collins, the chairman of the Avalon Green Team. “We will have over 30 different tables set up and residents will have a tremendous opportunity to learn how they can be environmentally responsible, and save money while doing so”. Saturday, October 9th, from 10:00am-3:00pm inside the Avalon Community Hall.

Sorry Sea Isle, you’ll have to drive around: The Ocean Drive Bridge over Townsends Inlet is closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 for a period of approximately three weeks (weather permitting). The closing of the bridge is necessitated by construction to replace deteriorated bridge railings and to clean and paint the entire bridge railing system. Cleaning and painting of the structural steel is expected to be completed by early summer 2011.

Queen of September: I’d like to take some space here and recognize a truly great achievement in pursuit of an Endless Summer. Every weekend since school has started, Cousin Ali has made the 5 hour drive (each way!) from JMU to 7MI. Her dedication to summer is unwavering and her participation in this post-season has been invaluable. I hereby declare her Queen of September and award her with the ESK Dedication award. Three cheers…

Eages -vs 49ers 8:20pm Sunday night.

NLDS Game 2: 6pm Friday night. NLDS Game 3: 7pm Sunday night

So folks, here we are, the final ESK scheduled beach weekend lays before us. Twenty one weekends, Friday evening to Monday morning, spent on the 7MI. One unforgettable weekend spent in Maine. A lot of moments, memories, and stories that will only get better with the passage of time. (Blog posts will continue sporadically throughout the colder summer months). We have a number of shore events scheduled for the off-season: Halloween? Thanksgiving, New Years, Polar Bear Plunge/ESK Birthday celebration, Easter? Not to mention the random “secret” weekends we all take to fill our lungs with salty air and remember what its like to be free again. Maybe don the wetsuit to catch some late season hurricane swell? Grab a slice of Circle, even though it’s never really as good as 2am in July? Walk to the end of the Jetty and see how long you can stay before the wind starts biting through your coat? Whatever your indulgence, always remember; Summer is a state of mind, not a frame of time.

Memories and Smiles from all 7 Miles, ESK

Thanks for the wagon Erik, that cooler wasn’t going to carry itself:

  1. Nice cooler boys! Glad to see it’s still kicking… pretty sure that thing is from the 80s. PS – 3948 First Ave will be no longer when you arrive this weekend…. 😦 But, new house to come will be amazing!! Who’s got beds for us this off-season??

  2. Joyce and I had the same mullet cut. Love it.
Just bought tickets to Philly this weekend but now second guessing myself…

    ESK's cooler sister
  3. WOO! Queen of September! Who has a crown for me to wear all weekend? Tiara? At least a wand or something?
Erica, outdoor bunk is yours all winter. Indoor bunk only if it’s below 32 degrees. Rumor has it that this weekend is also the last the P is open (except for Thanksgiving and New Years?) so I’ll be on the dance floor circa 9 pm Friday night until last call Saturday if anyone needs to find me.

  4. I’ll be in the AV by friday 5pm, hopefully sooner since it will be so warm and sunny.

  5. Great photos, Tom!
I had such a love/hate relationship with that mullet. But, boy, did I love hanging in my swanky swimming pool, didnt I?? Those were the days…

That, my friends, is not my dad Jack (in case you happened to believe Tommy). The actual photos of him are SO much better: white guy afro, short basketball shorts…

Good looks and a sense of style run in the family, clearly!

    See you this weekend!

  6. Who leaked those photos?? I expected to see them on TMZ by noon today. The lil storm was quiet by all reports. But I have to call Bullshit on Joyceeeee…That swanky pool was mine! It was in my backyard- as you can tell by the state of art outside shower in the background- that was the Coskey’s 14th street spa. If anyone has been to our outside shower on 24th street, you’ll note Mr. & Mrs. Coskey have come a long way. No further however, than their neighbor- Jack Polsenberg. I think my dad was a roadie for that band. Supposedly there were girls everywhere when their set ended.

Sick mullet by the way JP. I have a bunch of photos of lil dave and joycee, if you need more summetime fun throwbacks.

Enjoy the Phils Win! We are moving on Sunday. Eagles? What Eagles game?

  7. My name is Otto, and I love to get blotto!
